Pipeline Woes

Seems like the Americans managed to lean on the Pakistanis to get them to fall into ranks. And Pipeline Watch 2010 continues.

Holbrooke’s announcement doesn’t really come as a surprise. Pakistan’s response is not a surprise either. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, it really was a question of which country the Pakistani administration would side with and going with the United States was a no-brainer. Considering that the international community is increasing its pressure on Iran, Pakistan is better off holding out its cooperation with the United States on the ‘War on Terror’ as a carrot and hope that the pipeline from Turkmenistan pans out. If not, there’s always the nuclear deal with China.
