I think most people have heard about my crazy dream- to drive across Canada. My friend Tim and I have been talking about this trip since we were 16. It seemed like one of those crazy proclamations that teenagers make that never comes to fruition. Over the years, we’d visit that dream and talk about how it would be a cool, once-in-a-lifetime thing to do and then we’d move on to other more pressing things like the latest meme or trying to out-pun each other. It seemed like it always going to remain a figment of our imagination.
Well, it’s about to become a reality!
I’m writing this post from Haines Junction, Yukon. And this is where I was yesterday. In the first 24 hours I was here, I ate caribou and caribou tongue (and no, it didn’t taste like chicken), saw a black bear being skinned, went off-roading in a national park and helped attach headlights to a truck. In short, it’s nothing like I’ve ever experienced before!
Tomorrow we set off due east with the plan to reach St. John’s, Newfoundland in about 12 days. We’re planning to go through every province and still keep our sanity and our friendship intact. We’ll see how it goes.
I’m going to try and blog as much of this epic journey as possible, with internet availability as the limiting factor. Stay tuned!
